A double dose of blues legends! James Cotton, Mr. “Superharp” a member of the Muddy Waters band and incredible bandleader in his own right, will team up with Roomful of Blues, who have been bringing their brand of tight, joyful blues to the world for over 35 years. Having seen this incredible pairing at the King Biscuit Blues Festival in Helena Arkansas, producers Cam Hayden and Carrol Deen just had to bring this show to Edmonton audiences.

He’s had Grammy and Blues Music Award nominations and is in fact up for 2 Blues Music Awards in 2013. He made his way to Chicago, from his native Mississippi, in the early 60’s and never looked back, working with Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters, and Magic Slim. He is the “Real Deal” and makes his first appearance on our stage this summer.

Two brothers and a sister from Tupelo Mississippi who started turning heads at a youth showcase at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis five years ago. With a combined age of less than 50, Taya(drums), Kyle(bass) and Ryan(guitar) have it all. As none other than B.B. King said of them, “These young kids have got energy, talent and do the blues proud with their own flavor. I believe they’ve got a great future ahead.” It’s their first time on our stage and we look forward to having them.

Another group making its’ first appearance on our stage, and in Edmonton…After having seen them on the Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise we knew they had to perform here. No strangers to our stage, the Mannish boys mark their third trip to the Edmonton Blues Festival with some new, incredible faces in this award winning revue. They are up for no less than 5 Blues Music Awards this year, including “Band of the Year”, “Album of the Year” and “Traditional Blues Album of the Year”. Look for new member Sugarray Rayford and returning guitar greats Kirk Fletcher and Frank Goldwasser to tear it up to close Saturday night.

What can we say about Miss Eden Brent? Since her debut at our fest in 2006, shortly after she won the International Blues Challenge, she has gone on to win 3 Blues Music Awards, including the 2010 trophy as the Pinetop Perkins Piano Player of the year. It’s high time we had her back and we look forward to having her open our Sunday with a solo set.

Mark Hummel is no stranger to our stage having hosted his Harmonica Meltdown a couple of times and his own show once. This time around the guitar players come out front with Texas native Anson Funderburgh (who played our festival in year 2 with Sam Myers) and little Charlie Baty (year 1 with Little Charlie and the Nightcats) returning to our stage.
